*Necessary, *Grammatically, ”is what is known as” is a statement with too many prepositions, and is very redundant, the statement, “And is therefore..” is also redundant. Taking the time to pull out an error in my post and to correct it contradicts your statement, “Now, I really couldn’t give two shits about grammar on tumblr…” If we want to get really technical, don’t cite wikipedia as a source.

I admit, a hyphen there would have been better, but if you understood the context of this post you probably would not have had such an acidic rebuttal. This was not directed toward you but to the internet as a whole. I was really just posting this as a public service. I’m sorry if I offended you and thank you for taking the time to read into my post so in depth you found an error.

Again, as must be pointed out, I do not care about grammar. Not on tumblr. Not ever. The above fragments demonstrate said attitude. What I do care about are people who think that just because they do something a certain way (say, blog), that means everyone should adhere to their convictions. Truth it, blog however you want. Blog upside-down e.e. cummings style, for all I care. But if you are going to insist that we learn the rules you hold so dear, it may be prudent to learn them better yourself. As far as finding your error, I saw it on the first read (I’m a writer, so these things come up), and there are any number of ways to correct it (hyphen, semicolon, making it a dependent clause, etc.).

Wikipedia is an excellent source to find common grammatical rules, especially when it cites books like The Elements of Style (an excellent writing companion). As far as the redundancy of my sentences, that is really more a reflection of my writing style, and less of my grammar abilities (which, once again, I don’t care about). I just wanted to make sure you got the point.

And please don’t think you offended me, and if you did, please don’t feel the need to apologize. Keep writing however you like. As long as you keep writing. But for further reference, the Internet does not care how you do it.

Okay, let’s start with the basics.

Your/You’re

You’re = You are. You’re really annoying.

Your = Possessive. Your brother is really annoying.

Its/It’s

It’s = It is. It’s really hot outside.

Its = possesive. Texas is know for its hot climate

There/Their/They’re

There is referring to a place. The book is over there.

Their = possessive. Women are known for their PMS bullshit.

They’re = they are. I like Guns N’ Roses, they’re really cool.

Let’s get a little more in depth

Affect/effect

Affect is to have an influence on. Inflation affects the value of the dollar

Effect is brought on by an event or series of events. It’s super effective!

Accept/Except.

Accept is to agree or allow. I begged for him to accept my offer.

Except is an exclusion. We agree to your offer except for the last part.

A lot is ALWAYS two words

Allusion/Illusion

Allusion is an indirect reference. The teacher made an allusion to the author’s work

Illusion is a false perception. The mirage was only an illusion.

is what’s known as a comma splice and is therefore grammaticality incorrect. Now, I really couldn’t give two shits about grammar on tumblr (and a quick glance at my blog will prove that), but if you’re gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right.

I’m going to argue really quick that although I haven’t seen this report, I guarantee that many of the Orthodox and Ultra-Orthodox Jews in Israel would not participate in the surveys that went into the report. It’s just not something they would care about or take the time to fill out.

I agree that there should be looser restrictions within the country. Israel attempts a democracy within a theocracy and things are going to get sticky very soon. But the information presented in that report is definitely skewed. Just something to consider.
